In efforts to improve communication, Frisco ISD is piloting a new app, Thrillshare at Sem Elementary and here on campus, that allows schools and parents to have two-way communication with the remainder of FISD schools rolling out the app for the 26-27 school year.
“The primary benefit will be the volume of information that can be pushed out across multiple platforms,” Associate Principal Tyler Wicke said. “We know that everyone tends to look for information in a variety of places and the app will allow all information to be quickly and easily posted through all of these places.”
As one of the schools chosen to pilot the app, the school will be able to provide feedback before all campuses begin using it in August.
“We love to get out in front of change and try things out,” Wicke said. “We will see what works well, and what doesn’t, to help make the transition easier for the other campuses that are likely to come after us.”
For various programs, like sports, having a platform which allows communication between parents, coaches, and players has proven to be beneficial.
“It really just keeps all of the communication in one place and allows us to, like, seamlessly communicate and send out announcements,” softball head coach Randi Hamilton said. “If there is a quick change I need to send out, I can just do it once and it goes out to everyone and I don’t need to send it out a million times.”
The use of an online platform has made it easier to keep track of important information for Red Rhythm team manager, senior Ava Clerkin.
“It definitely makes it faster to communicate with everyone,” Clerkin said. “If we relied solely on email, a lot of people wouldn’t see them or they could get lost. With apps, like Remind, it makes it so much easier to communicate dates, times, and last minute things like when we’ll be home from football games and it allows us to get to parents and students a lot faster.”
The implementation of the Thrillshare app aims to consolidate communication across multiple platforms into one place, making information easier to locate.
“I think there are always growing pains and changes, because, like, you’re so used to one thing,” Hamilton said. “But I also think putting everything like education, sports, and clubs in one spot will really help make things a little bit easier for everyone to understand.”
