Review: Chicago chicken done right in Dallas

If you go to Chicago’s Chicken Coop, there’s only one thing to get and that is fried chicken. It may be nearly 1,000 miles away, but this place brings the taste of Chicago to the Big D.

As someone who was born in Chicago and lived there for 11 years, I was a little skeptical when I first entered Chicago’s Chicken Coop in Dallas. There are only four locations in the country and the one on Frankford Road is the only one outside Illinois.

Unsure of what to expect, the small restaurant is clean and captured the feeling of Chicago with its interior. Making it more pleasing, the staff is friendly as well, making the wait go by quickly.

If you go to Chicago’s Chicken Coop, there’s only one thing to get and that is fried chicken and that’s exactly what was ordered on this day. The tangy taste of the sauce goes well with both the fries and chicken and the coleslaw tops it off to make the ideal meal.

It’s very hard to find restaurants that can live up to the Chicago name, but Chicken Coop does just that. The fries are not too salty or bland and aren’t too crunchy or soggy, just as a fry should be. The food is, of course, served hot and ready to eat without burning your tongue to ashes.

The chicken isn’t the artificial, bland chicken you’d get from Church’s, Popeyes, or KFC, it’s genuine. You can tell they took time to actually cook it and not serve it with leftover feathers. It’s a little pricey, but it’s definitely worth spending your money if you want to get a taste of Chicago.
