Saturday marks the district meet for Model UN at Grand Prairie High School. “The basis of MUN is that you’re preparing something about your country’s stance on a certain topic - it’s a mock United Nations,” undersecretary of conference and delegate trainer sophomore Jiya Sharma said.

The Board of Trustees met Monday night for their monthly meeting. They recognized National Merit Semifinalists, and the district’s Future Ready sponsors.

The Frisco ISD Board of Trustees met Monday night for their regular September meeting where the Board received an update on Safety and Security by Chief Operations Officer Scott Warstler, which focused predominantly on the new armed security officer requirement by HB 3, which was passed earlier this year by the Texas legislature.

Following the approval of minutes, the Board appointed members of the FISD community to various District Committees as recommended by General Counsel Daniel Stockton, including (but not limited to) the School Health Advisory Council, the Library Reconsideration Committee, and the Safety and Security Committee.

After a brief discussion, the Board then approved a resolution (5-2) prohibiting the employment, or appointment as volunteers, of chaplains, in accordance with SB 763, which was passed by the 88th Legislature in June.

The Board also approved a new FISD Vision Statement, approved the 2023-2023 District Improvement Plan, approved budget transfers and amendments for the 2023-2024 General Fund budget, and approved (5-2) the purchase of materials from Amplify Education.

A recording of the meeting and copy of the meeting agenda, along with live broadcasts, recordings, and meeting agendas for previous and future meetings, can be found at: https://www.friscoisd.org/about/board-of-trustees/agendas-meeting-archive.
