Keeping the momentum from their last win against the Australian team, the Redhawks girls’ basketball team (6-9) opened District 11-5A play with a 40-15 win against Frisco (0-16) on Tuesday at The Nest.
Facing a winless team, there were still challenges for head coach Ross Reedy.
“Sometimes when you’re expected to be better than a team, you defy your principles because you just want to outplay them, so a lot of it is just collective discipline that we had to overcome,” head coach Ross Reedy said. “It wasn’t just going to work because our personnel were a little bit more advanced than their personnel. As for [keeping that] momentum, you’ll see us transition smoothly from offense to defense and defense to offense, and improve collective efforts on both sides of the ball.”
Leading the way for the Redhawks was junior Lilian Johnson who finished with 10 points which is almost as many as the Raccoons scored as the Redhawks held Frisco to three points in the 1st quarter, four in the second, 0 in the third, and eight in the 4th.
The performance is a testament to the team following Reedy’s pregame plan.
“Executing our offense effectively against teams that we know we’re more skilled than, so doing all the little things right,” varsity player junior Natalia Soto said. “For our next match, I think we really need to polish up our defensive plays and offensive plays.”
