Some may say the boys’ basketball team (5-3) have pulled off several improbable upsets this season, but the second-place Redhawks will set out to prove that they’re not done yet by guarding The Nest against the Heritage Coyotes (8-0) Friday at 7:15 p.m. in a District 11-5A contest.
The Redhawks came up just shy of defeating the Coyotes in their most recent meeting, so coaches and players alike are expecting a good game the second time around.
“This is going to be a tough game for the guys, so we’ve been really utilizing our scouts and film to refresh ourselves on what Heritage likes to do,” head coach Bruce Wright said. “We’ve also been really focused on eliminating the small mistakes in practice.”
Junior Toshiro Mahtani is likewise taking no chances in the game.
“We’ll just go out there and play aggressively against a very versatile team,” Mahtani said. “Try to pressure them and get some turnovers, but always be aware of what they want to do. At the end of the day we just have to leave everything out there on the court.”
