Writing a story.
Creating a storyboard.
Adding sound effects.
Animating chaos.
Students in Demas Lamas’s 3DMA class are racing to finish their Kitchen Chaos projects, which involve crafting a storyboard and animating objects through the software Maya.
“So the kitchen chaos project brings together everything as far as animation,” Lamas said. “It’s kinda like a mini movie that’s about ten seconds long. I think what sets it apart is that they’ll be audio and it needs a full story, so it’s more rounded out than the other projects.”
For students like freshman Catherine Mohanraj, animating an entire story is fun but comes with its challenges.
“The best part is that you have the ability to make it as funny or scary as you like,” Mohanraj said. “But some of the challenges I ran into was that my animation was running too fast which made me redo my whole animation.”
However, for senior Ryan Merchant, it’s a chance to be creative about a school project.
“I’ve personally really enjoyed working on it,” Merchant said. “It’s allowed me to learn about the principles of animation and put them into effect. It’s also allowed me to broaden my horizons and use a creative side of my brain which I don’t normally get to use much in school.”
