Hitting the road and traveling to Independence (4-8) Friday, the softball team (10-2) was already on a four-game winning streak and had secured back-to-back shutouts in their previous two games.
But the Redhawks were hungry for more, and in Friday’s game they got what they were looking for, shutting out the Knights 16-0. Their win and shutout streaks now stand at five and three games, respectively.
“We’re so focused on taking it one day at a time, staying present, and doing the little things right that I hadn’t even realized our streaks,” head coach Tiffany Thayer said. “Lately, our team has really been dialed in mentally, and that’s setting us up to hopefully extend our season in a big way.”
Just a few years after going winless in district play, the team is currently tied for first place in District 11-5A with a playoff bid secured.
“Getting this many wins and shutouts is great,” junior Anna Reeves said. “But every game is a reminder that we need to show up and play to the best of our abilities.”
