For Thomas Day, his future was centered on football, with plans to play in college and get recruited by the NFL. But when he started singing on Season 15 of America’s Got Talent in 2020, he knew that music was his future.
Before his performance on AGT as a junior, Day has been posting clips of his musical talents on Instagram. One of his posts in particular blew up his online presence; garnering over 30,000 followers for Day. Fast forward two years after his moving performance and Day was signed on by Arista Records, with whom he has been releasing his original songs ever since.
So far, Day has dropped a 2023 debut album (Love Me For Another Day), a 2024 EP (Angel Boy), and a plethora of singles.
All of Day’s work is heartfelt, raw, and moving, but it shifts vibes constantly. His album, Love Me For Another Day, is melancholy, regretful, and poetic. There’s a lot of classical instrumentation in this compilation, with songs mainly featuring piano and acoustic guitar. His powerful voice, which tugs at heartstrings and launched him into popularity on AGT, remains on center stage.
Meanwhile, his EP Angel Boy takes a lighter and more upbeat approach, focusing on the beginning rather than the end of a relationship. The songs are a lot more guitar-heavy, which blends really nicely with Day’s impressive vocals. His songs are pretty simple, featuring only his voice, background vocals, and some simple guitar. This musical structure promotes Day’s persona as a genuine and emotionally-open artist.
His newest singles, such as “Sleep When We’re Dead”, are more mainstream pop-centered than his previous releases and are a ton of fun to listen to. They stray away from Day’s typical “softer” instrumentation and incorporate electric guitar as well as drums. While he does still have that element of the “movie soundtrack” vibe, his newer work would probably be featured in the romantic moments montage rather than the breakup scene.
Although he is fairly new to the music scene, I definitely recommend stopping by Day’s Spotify page and giving his songs a listen. He’s got elements of everything, from pop to alt rock to folk, meaning there’s something there for everyone.
