Student Council members are painting kind messages on rocks and placing them in the local neighborhood, with the goal of spreading kindness and positivity among the community.
“Me and Ms. Stevens came across the idea, so [the students] basically go out in the community, get rocks from the neighborhood, and they paint it,” StuCo teacher Payton Weldon said. “They put the rocks back out in the neighborhood where they found them, and then members of the neighborhood just walk around, and it’s kind of like a little nice surprise for them if they’re on a walk with their family or pets.”
StuCo students are posting pictures to Instagram using the hashtags #LHSROCKS #TheKindnessRockProject.
“Making kindness rocks was something that we’ve never done before in StuCo,” senior Mackenzie Raymond said. “It was super fun looking up inspiration for what we wanted our rocks to look like and how we wanted to paint them.”
Through spreading simple, uplifting messages, Student Council is fostering a culture of positivity and connection in the neighborhood.
“I really enjoyed this project because just having the potential to make a difference in someone’s day makes me feel happy,” senior Alanna Chang said. “You never know what someone is going through, even small words of encouragement could bring back their confidence and make their whole week!”
