Band ends the year with their spring concert Tuesday in the auditorium at 7 p.m.
“The spring concert is really important- especially for the seniors,” junior, drum major Kanad Bhandarkar said. “It is the last time many of them will play their instruments and it is also the last time that all of them will get to perform with [their] best friends who are graduating.”
Among the sections set to be performed: Wicked-The original broadway musical, Star Wars, and an Irish folk song.
“I’ve been practicing Wicked a lot because that’s definitely the hardest,” sophomore Elisa Zuniga said. “I’ll go through the notes really slowly and then try my best to speed it up; try to break everything down before I [start woking] on it.”
For Bhandarkar, his favorite piece conveys an emotional feeling.
“We will be playing American Elegy, Porgy and Bess, and Malagueña. My favorite piece would definitely be American Elegy,” Bhandarkar said. “Its exigence is really emotional and Frank Ticheli does a brilliant job conveying that feeling to both the musicians and audience.”
At this spring concert, senior Suhaib Sabir looks fondly at the memories he made in the band and he hopes this concert will be a night to remember.
“I’m looking forward to [performing] one last time with the Liberty Band, and I hope to make it a memorable experience,” Sabir said. “I’ll especially miss marching band competitions as they were some of my most core memories from band. This spring concert will definitely hit differently in comparison to the rest, as it’s my final time performing with this ensemble. I will deeply miss and cherish tomorrow’s performance.”
