For their first meet of the 2025-2026 school year, Redhawks cross country competed in the Rock Hill Opener meet Friday. The team placed in the middle across most races, with their highest placement being fifth in the Open Varsity Girls division.
“They supported each other and got the first race behind them,” co-head coach Khera Vay said. “[The younger] kids had a great experience for their first high school race. [But they should start] love being uncomfortable and show up to the race not just to run.”
Vay is focused on achieving key goals with the team this season.
“[Our team goals this year are] reaching the District Championship for boys and girls [as well as] achieving personal bests throughout the season,” Vay said.
For senior Caitlyn Ruback, the meet highlighted both her strengths and areas for improvement.
“I’d say I did well leading our top five in the race,” Ruack said. “I felt like I didn’t waste all of my energy in the first mile. I would like to improve my splits and make them more even. As the year goes on I will make sure to work hard and receive some personal records throughout the season!”
