In the digital age, more and more small artists are finding their place in the music industry through social media posts and viral videos – indie rock band Poolhouse is no exception.
Three high school friends – Jonny Steed (lead guitar), Jake Buckner (vocals/guitar), and Lucas Olivier (bass guitar) formed Poolhouse during the COVID-19 pandemic. As they continued to produce music, they also added Tate Cope (drums) to their group. Ever since their formation in 2020, the group has since released two EPs – Blue (2023) and Tape Machine (2023). They also have produced multiple singles and debut their first album, Music for Poor Kids, on Aug. 29.
Poolhouse posts all of their songs on TikTok, but they recently went viral for their song “Could Be Love” after music producer Rachel Ruff Cuyler offered an alternate version of the song, which Poolhouse soon adopted and released as “Could Be Love (Rachel’s Version)”. The band flew Cuyler out, and produced a video with her to debut the reimagined version. The whole interaction brought a lot of attention to the talent of Poolhouse, bringing in millions of views on TikTok.
Combining the catchy beats of pop with the authentic instrumentation of rock music, along with the energy created by the prominent electric guitar makes for songs that you’ll never get tired of listening to. Honestly, the way songs are constructed makes it so you can listen to it multiple times in a row and find something new to like every single time. Poolhouse also has garnered a lot of positive attention for their authentic approach to songwriting and their energetic live performances (as captured in their online video posts), creating a more genuine connection between the artists and their fans.
