The volleyball team (20-3, 2-0) might be tied with bitter cross-town rivals Centennial (18-6, 2-0) for first place in District 11-5A play, but it won’t stay that way for long.
One of the teams will hand the other their first district loss and claim the “Rivalry on Rolater” when the Redhawks, ranked eighth in the state, pay a visit to the Titans, who are ranked 43rd, Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Despite the high stakes, the players and coaches are approaching this match the same as they do all of their other district games.
“We are watching film and working their tendencies into our practice plans,” head coach Eighmy Dobbins said. “Heavily communicating about where our priorities are on their side of the net, knowing their tendencies, and most of all just executing our scouting report [will be key]”.
Redhawks volleyball players did not immediately respond to Liberty Wingspan’s request for comment.
UPDATE:
It may not have been the most cut-and-dry match of the season, but the volleyball team (21-3, 3-0) handled business against their district rivals Centennial (18-7, 2-1), winning 3-2 on the road Tuesday and narrowly outscoring them 105-99 to claim the latest iteration of the “Rivalry on Rolater”. With the victory, the Redhawks not only lead the Titans in the all-time series, 27-15, but also dethrone them to claim the top spot in District 11-5A.
By the end of the third set, the eighth-in-state Redhawks led the 43rd-ranked Titans in points scored, but they had not won all three sets, which meant that at least one more was necessary. Centennial would take the fourth set, tying the match 2-2 and forcing a deciding fifth set played to fifteen points, which the Redhawks won to seal their victory.
