Even if you haven’t seen the 1997 film Titanic, you’re probably aware that things progress relatively quickly from Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jack Dawson famously proclaiming “I’m the king of the world!” to the titular ship sinking after striking an iceberg.
The volleyball team (22-4, 4-1) can certainly relate to the roller coaster of a story arc. After all, the then-number-one state ranked Redhawks experienced their own Titanic-esque moment Tuesday, having their 15-game winning streak snapped, losing 3-2 to Independence (10-9, 2-3) despite outscoring the Knights 103-94.
But like all Hollywood moments, the team has a shot at redemption when they return to the court on Friday.
“We need to work on blocking consistency and speeding up our offense,” head coach Eighmy Dobbins said. “Being more proactive blockers and more communicative at the net will help as well.”
Volleyball players did not immediately respond to Liberty Wingspan’s request for comment.
