Wingspan: What do you enjoy most about playing volleyball?
Mercer: “In volleyball what I enjoy most is playing with some of my best friends and getting to have fun while also focusing on winning and the competitive aspect of it at the same time.”
Wingspan: Who/what is your inspiration?
Mercer: “My inspiration would have to be my mom, she’s always encouraged me to keep going and never give up, even when I feel overwhelmed.”
Wingspan: What are you looking forward to most this season?
Mercer: “This season I’m mostly looking forward to playoffs because we’ve been working really hard to get there and it’ll be fun playing teams outside of our district.”
Wingspan: What does your practice routine look like?
Mercer: “Our practice routine looks like breaking down the things that we need to work on on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and preparing for games on Tuesdays and Fridays.”
Wingspan: How do you stay motivated each day?
Mercer: “Each day I stay motivated by looking at the bigger picture because I know in the future I will miss the sport and people that I get to spend everyday with.”
Wingspan: Do you plan to continue playing later in life?
Mercer: “After high school I don’t plan on playing volleyball but It’ll always be a fun skill to have when I need it.”
Wingspan: What impact has volleyball had on your life?
Mercer: “Volleyball has had a very big impact on my life and has given me lifelong relationships that I couldn’t get from anywhere else.”
Wingspan: What is something you will take away from your high school volleyball experience?
Mercer: “Something I will take away from my high school volleyball experience is the importance of putting other people first and the difference getting excited for others can make for you.”
Wingspan: What is your goal as a player this year?
Mercer: “My goal as a player this year is to effectively do my job by filling a role that needs to be filled.”
