These are just some of the songs on pop icon Taylor Swift’s newest album “The Life of a Showgirl.”
When the album was announced, it came as a shock for many. The New Heights podcast (hosted by Swift’s fiancé Travis Kelce and his older brother Jason Kelce) episode featuring Swift drew attention on its own, with the album release only adding to the excitement.
“It was something that I was working on while I was in Europe on the Eras Tour,” Swift said on New Heights. “This album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant.”
As is fitting for her 12th album, “The Life of a Showgirl” has 12 tracks–including a feature. The final song on the album, which shares a name with the album itself, is a collaboration between Swift and one of her close friends and openers on tour, Sabrina Carpenter.
Fans of Swift, commonly referred to as Swifties, associate certain colors with each of her albums, and “The Life of a Showgirl” is no different. The signature color of this album: bright orange.
“It feels like kind of energetically how my life has felt,” Swift said on New Heights.
Different from her past records, “The Life of a Showgirl” represents the highs and lows of touring through contrasting styles of music.
The reception of this album has been mixed–some listeners believe this album is representing a decline in music quality from Swift while others have said on various online platforms that it has grown on them with time. Certain songs, such as The Fate of Ophelia and Actually Romantic have started to trend on TikTok and other social media.
“The Life of a Showgirl” has shocked many fans with the drastic change from Swift’s usual lyrical story telling to a more carefree album, but only time will tell how this album ranks in Swift’s discography.
