With six orchestras and more than 200 students to support, orchestra is hosting a fan-pledge fundraiser Wednesday after school to raise money for their program.
“The funds from the fundraiser help all students,” orchestra director Julie Blackstock said. “We use a lot of it for our banquet at the end of the year, to subsidize banquet tickets. It also helps to fund college scholarships for seniors, and private lesson scholarships or trip scholarships as necessary.”
Most of the funds from this year’s fundraiser will be going towards orchestra’s out of state-trip in the spring.
“So for orchestra we have a trip coming up and we’re going to New York,” sophomore Rebecca Feng said. “The fundraising really helps us so that we can have a good trip without having the students pay an excess.”
Orchestra’s fan-pledge fundraiser is occurring after school Wednesday in the cafeteria with students making calls to family and friends with a goal of raising at least $145, with each contact hopefully donating a minimum of $25.
“Fan-pledge is our major fundraiser for the year,” Blackstock said. “It is a donations based fundraiser so the students don’t have to sell anything. They are just calling friends and family and asking for donations of twenty-five dollars or more. This way, all the money comes directly to the ensemble, to the group.”
