A revenge match 359 days in the making.
That’s how the sixth-in-state volleyball team (31-4, 13-1 District 11-5A) is approaching their first-round playoff game against Lone Star (19-13, 8-6 District 12-5A) Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Frisco High School.
The reasoning behind that mindset? The Redhawks’ 3-1 loss to the Rangers in the first round of playoffs last year.
“We are going to prioritize defending the middle and outside hitters well [because] we are scrappy and are good at moving the ball around the court,” head coach Eighmy Dobbins said.
“They are physically a lot bigger than us and have some really solid offensive options, though, so that will be a challenge.”
Senior, outside hitter and right-side-hitter, MacLane Mercer said that the team is excited for their playoff journey.
“We’ve been working really hard to get here and it’ll be fun playing teams outside of our district,” Mercer said. “We’ve encouraged each other to keep going, and we’re not going to give up.”
