Wingspan: Why do you wrestle?
Koons: “I wrestle because I thought the sport I figured out this is my passion, I love this sport with all my heart and I have fun doing it.”
Wingspan: What is your biggest takeaway from high school wrestling?
Koons: “My biggest take away is you can’t let your mindset get in the way of your performance. You can always learn from your mistakes but more importantly make sure you do something because you have fun doing it. And never be too hard on yourself.”
Wingspan: What are you most excited about this season?
Koons: “I’m excited to see how the team does, we have a good amount of upperclassmen and I can’t wait to see how all the younger people do.”
Wingspan: What does your practice routine look like?
Koons: “During the week we typically have 2 semi early practices (7:45-9:30 a.m.) two early (7-10 a.m.) and one later practice (9-10 a.m). Whenever I get that chance I also go to my club practice which is from 7:30-9 p.m.”
Wingspan: Who is your biggest supporter?
Koons: “I would say my dad is my biggest supporter, other than it being his job to coach me he loves to watch me wrestle and compete.”
Wingspan: What is your favorite part about wrestling?
Koons: “I love the constant bonding of the team. We are always such good friends and everyone gets along so well. This makes our tournaments externally fun and something I look forward to.”
Wingspan: Do you plan to continue your wrestling career after high school?
Koons: “Yes I do continue to practice my wrestling career after high school, whether that’s wrestling at college or not I will still be involved because I plan on being a wrestling coach.”
Wingspan: What impact has wrestling had on your life?
Koons: “Wrestling is a big part of who I am today, it has built up my mental and physical toughness unlike anything else I have experienced before. Being a part of this sport has made every other aspect of my life easier because wrestling is the hardest thing I could possibly do.”
