Wingspan: Why do you wrestle?
Banks: “I wrestle for the thrill of going against better people and getting the chance to win or learn from losing.”
Wingspan: What is your biggest takeaway from high school wrestling?
Banks: “My biggest takeaway from high school wrestling is that no matter how hard you work there is always somebody out there trying to work harder than you. That’s why you just have to keep going.”
Wingspan: What are you most excited about this season?
Banks: “I’m most excited about getting mat time and hopefully making state for a third time in a row.”
Wingspan: What does your practice routine look like?
Banks: “My practice routine typically looks like waking up at 5:30 in the morning and getting ready for practice. I usually arrive at the school around 6:15 and get dressed in my practice gear. We begin with a jog around the circle in the mat room and some stretching and we start wrestling for the next two hours and lift at the end.”
Wingspan: Who is your biggest supporter?
Banks: “My biggest supporter is for sure my older brother who is also a Liberty wrestling alumni.”
Wingspan: What is something you would tell someone who wants to do wrestling in the future?
Banks: “To not be afraid of the sport and don’t listen to what people who’ve never done it say, we really are nice people and this is an amazing sport.”
Wingspan: What advice would you go back and tell yourself when you first began wrestling?
Banks: “That it was hard then but everything now is way better and the hardships we went through were so worth it for the success I acquired.”
Wingspan: What impact has wrestling had on your life?
Banks: “Wrestling has made me stronger mentally and physically, there’s a quote that coach koons has hanging by the mat room that says “after you wrestled everything else in life is easier” and I firmly believe that, that quote is very true I feel as if nothing can harm me if I’ve already been through it all.”
