The volleyball team (35-5, 13-1 District 11-5A, #5 in 5A) ended their season one game short of playing for a state championship after Argyle (38-3, 12-0 District 6-5A, #10 in 5A) defeated the Redhawks 3-1 on Saturday at Prosper Rock Hill High School.
Making it to the state semifinals for the first time in school history, the Redhawks took the first set 25-23, but the Eagles won the next three (25-20, 25-21, 25-12).
For head coach Eighmy Dobbins, who won the 2015 4A Division II state title while playing for Argyle, competing against her former team was an important moment.
“It was very special to see they’re still a winning team, also very emotional to relieve some memories,” Dobbins said. “We played a good team in Argyle, and though we lost to them, I’m proud to see all that our team has accomplished this season.”
Senior, setter Allison Tredwell, who will be playing volleyball at Princeton University next fall, said that the reason for the Redhawks’ loss was simple.
“We made a lot of little mistakes,” Tredwell said. “Argyle was able to capitalize on them, and that’s how they were able to win against us.”
