For many theatre students, performing on stage is a passion, but this week they’re taking that passion to a whole new level. Theatre students from across the state are at the annual thespian event, the Texas Thespian Festival, at the Gaylord Convention Center in Grapevine where they are spending three days learning, competing, and celebrating.
“There are a lot of learning opportunities that people can work with professionals on,” junior Karthika Menon said. “It’s really important because it lets a lot of students get into fields that they aren’t very familiar with – actors might be able to try something technical and almost anything for anyone who is interested in any part of theater.”
From acting and improv to tech and design, students are attending workshops, performing in competitions, and will be able to watch other schools performances at the festival.
“I’m going to be performing a duet scene thespy at the Texas Thespian Festival,” sophomore Viraj Malampalli said. “It’ll be Diary of a Wimpy Kid where I’m Greg and my partner is Rowley.”
