It may not be the Great British Bake Off or Cake Boss, but orchestra students are going to be showing off their dessert skills at Monday’s baking social.
“The main goal is to continue building a sense of community within our orchestra family and to have lots of fun,” officer Akshara Rajesh said. “Students get to show off their baking skills and we have student and faculty judges who get to try out all of the food!”
Many students view the social as a chance to strengthen friendships and meet members from other orchestra levels.
“During the social we get time to talk with our friends and play games with our pods too,” sophomore Khrisha Mathi Mohan said. “This definitely helps to break the ice with people and get to know them.”
This is especially exciting for freshman Alex Suzuki.
“It helps kids in Orchestra connect with each other by getting to know each other better and maybe even making some new friends,” Suzuki said. “One of the best things about orchestra is that we always try to make you feel a part of the family!”
In preparation for the social, officers worked to ensure a smooth and inclusive experience for all orchestra members.
“We prepare for the event by decorating the room with a bunch of Christmas decorations to set the ambiance,” Rajesh said. “We make sure to promote the event because as they say, ‘The more the merrier!’”
As the orchestra continues rehearsing for the winter concert, members and officers hope the Baking Social encourages healthy competition and reinforces the supportive environment the program strives to maintain.
“I’m most looking forward to who will win this year because we’ve had the same winner for the past 2 years,” Mathi Mohan said. “I also am really excited to try some of the desserts.”
