The girls basketball team (6-14, 1-2) had a busy break losing to Centennial (44-36), Duncanville (47-19), and Vista Ridge (51-37) before turning things around beating Dickinson (38-29).
“Over the break, we changed up the lineup a little bit, and I think that helped us kind of start early and get some running, because we were focusing on our tempo,” head coach Mykaela Alfred said. “We noticed our pressure works better when we scooted back a bit. Also, the girls definitely got more confident in their shooting, since they got to take more shots.”
For junior Kaitlyn Jenson, the team’s biggest improvement over the break was being able to observe the court more closely.
“I think our biggest challenge was going too fast,” Jenson said. “Sometimes we need to just slow down and observe the court.”
They get that chance when they take on Heritage Tuesday, 5:45 p.m. at The Nest.
“The games over the break will definitely help us with our pressure [at this upcoming game],” Alfred said. “With ball handling and shooting, it definitely helped us build confidence. So we saw what we could really do against these other teams.”
Jenson feels that the games that happened over break will help the team be more focused at the upcoming game.
“For the next few games, we’re going to focus on playing our own game and not letting the other teams speed us up,” Jenson said.
