They may have just pulled off what is arguably the biggest upset of their season to date, but the boys basketball team (12-9, 3-1) can’t afford to rest on their laurels, as they head to McKinney to take on Emerson (10-13, 1-3) Friday at 7:15 p.m.
“This is a must-win game for us if we want to make the playoffs,” head coach Bruce Wright said. “We just need to go out there and play tough. The key will be shooting effectively against their defense and forcing turnovers to maximize the time we get with the ball.”
The Redhawks’ primary focus on the court will be playing their specific style of basketball according to senior forward Gilbert Aluga, who recently eclipsed 1,000 career points.
“We’re more focused on us and how we like to play rather than their style,” Aluga said. “With some elite scorers on our team, scoring has never been much of an issue for us, but we need to really clamp down with an iron defense. Usually when we’ve been able to hold our opponents to under 50 points we’ve been able to win.”
