With matches delayed due to ice, snow and below-freezing temperatures, the soccer teams took on Lebanon Trail (4-3-3, 0-2 boys; 7-1-2, 2-0 girls) Thursday. The boys (9-0-3, 1-0-1) won 4-0 at The Nest to reclaim the Donkey Derby trophy, while the girls (1-6, 0-2) lost 2-0 on the road. Both teams will face Centennial (8-2-1, 1-0-1 boys; 4-2-4 girls, 1-0-1) Friday, with the boys playing on the road and the girls staying at The Nest.
“I’m actually really happy with the way that we’ve played for a young team,” girls’ head coach Kyle Beggs said. “We’re getting a lot of compliments, and we’ve been kind of unlucky at times. I think that we’ve done well and should have come away with more than a loss, but we’ve made a few mistakes.”
For boys’ head coach Evan McGee, it’s a similar story, even with the opposite result.
“I don’t think the guys feel nervous,” McGee said. “They know a lot of the guys on the team, they know how to play, so they know everyone’s going to try and beat us, but they don’t seem nervous about it. So really it’s just sticking to the game plan and being disciplined.”
