You have seven minutes to filter your entire life’s story through four impossible questions: truth, fairness, goodwill, and benefit. 

How would you express your life?

That was the assignment for one class.

Debate one students are working on the rotary speech which is about answering the four-way test, which asks four different general questions about students’ topics.

“The requirements for the rotary speech are that students can internalize a topic of their choosing, and within internalizing that, they deliver their speech, and they have to answer four crucial questions about their topic,” debate teacher Michelle Porter said. “1. Is it the truth? 2. Is it fair to all concerned? 3. Is it beneficial for all? Will it build goodwill and friendships? And I think by having those questions answered, students are making it more relatable as they speak it.”

Students such as freshman Larvinia Thopae are excited about this speech and are grateful for this opportunity.

“I feel great!” Thopae said. “I am glad that I have this opportunity to do this Rotary Speech. I mean, I made it pretty inspirational, and I think it’s a topic that I am personally touched by, so I think I am going to do pretty decent. Well, my expectations are probably that I am going to forget half of it throughout the speech, but I am going to try and remember it to my best, and hopefully I get an “A”.”
