The girls basketball team (11-19, 6-7) faced Memorial (23-9, 12-1) on the road Friday, losing 54-48.
“The girls on Memorial are very big players and just have us beat on height,” assistant coach Rylee Stewart said. “But we saw a lot more confidence on the floor from everyone stepping up, doing their roles.”
According to junior Kaitlyn Jenson, the players’ size strengthened their pressure.
“It was tough because we had to break their pressure,” Jenson said. “And since they’re super tall and big, you have to beat their press with fast passes and good passes.”
Looking to turn things around, the girls basketball team hosts Emerson (21-12, 10-3) on Tuesday at 5:45 p.m..
“For Emerson, we mainly need to shoot a lot more and strengthen our defense,” Stewart said.
For Jenson, the challenges expected at Emerson are similar to the ones the team saw with Memorial.
“The challenges with Emerson are going to be like Memorial just because the players are also big, but they aren’t as tall,” Jenson said.
