Aiming for a win to start their new season, the softball team (0-1) instead had to settle for a 3-0 loss to Denton Braswell (2-0) on the road Tuesday.
The Redhawks recorded a .125 batting average and .160 on-base percentage but according to head coach Randi Hamilton, there’s more to the numbers.
“We had some really good lengthy at bats and made better contact as the game progressed [but also] some hard hits late that weren’t falling for us,” Hamilton said. “Pitching and defensively we had some really bright spots. We held them hitless until the fifth [inning]. I’d like to see us make quicker adjustments at the plate and go up with a plan.”
One of six underclassmen – including five freshmen – on the eleven-athlete roster, freshman pitcher Beckley Baumgart knows the only way forward is through practice.
“I’m committed to putting in lots of reps,” Baumgart said. “I know I can only get better with each rep, and I’m excited to get to play with my team.”
