Squaring off against Wakeland (31-5, 13-1) in a first-round playoff match at Lebanon Trail Friday, the girls basketball team (11-21, 6-8) lost 85-36, bringing their first season under new head coach Mykaela Alfred to a close.
“The goals at the start of the season were to handle to ball better, be able to handle pressure, and be able to guard in the full and half court,” Alfred said, “We were able to take strides towards each goal individually, but not where we quite wanted to get. So we’ll look toward the future to meet all of those goals.”
The season has not only instilled growth in the players, but also in the coaches themselves.
“As a coach, the season has taught me to celebrate the small victories more,” Alfred said. “Because even the smallest strides are steps to progress.”
