The application window for the Texas Education Freedom Accounts, which opened on Feb. 4, closes on March 17 at 11:59 p.m. Funding for the education savings accounts is capped at $1 billion, allowing 90,000–100,000 students to be accepted.
The education savings accounts are meant to give students school choice, offering funding for private school, homeschool, and approved services such as tutoring. Students with disabilities, and those in private school and in homeschool will receive $30,000, $10,474, and $2,000, respectively.
The time that applications are submitted reportedly do not affect admission chances. However, families that submit Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or disability certifications will prioritize students for acceptance, as the system selects applicants based on a need and income-based lottery. IEPs also may qualify families for additional funding. Applicants with accepted siblings are guaranteed acceptance as well.
