Spring break was full of winning memories for soccer, with the two teams combining for a perfect 3-0 record against their competition.
Leading into spring break on March 13, the boys team (District 11-5A 10-2-2, #17 in state) shut out Emerson (District 11-5A 9-5) 2-0 to end the regular season March 13.
From there, the boys made their third consecutive playoff appearance, defeating Highland Park (11-3 5A Region 2 District 12) 1-0 at Kimbaugh Stadium Friday.
Boys’ assistant coach Kyle Parks attributes his team’s first playoff win in five seasons to one thing: authenticity.
“It was a great relief to get that win,” Parks said. “I think as a team we were all really excited, and everything really sank in once the clock hit zero. We had to show up and play our game to our strengths, not let them distract us. Since we didn’t play Highland Park during the regular season, we had to practice with some film of them from other schools.”
On the girls side, the regular season ended with the Redhawks (District 11-5A 3-8-3) also shutting out Emerson (District 11-5A 3-9-2) 2-0.
With her high school soccer journey now over, senior outside back Caitlyn Ruback reflects on some of her favorite parts of the sport as a whole.
“Your team is a huge part of the game,” Ruback said. “I love how fast paced the game is and I enjoy the fact that there is always something to improve too.”
