Books can be turned into volunteer hours as part of a book drive on campus through Friday. 

Students can donate new or gently used books at the donation books near the library to help make a difference. Books will go to the non-profit organization Inside Books Project, which benefits incarcerated people throughout the state in reformation programs.

“So, our aim for this book drive is to one, expand opportunity for education and for future opportunities, including many people [in] Texas, including impacted people,” student book drive organizer Saesha Agarwal said. “And two, to continue their education to get a second chance at life and the third one is education: reduce residency rates by a lot and the aim of this [is] to increase civic awareness.”

“I think this book drive will be very beneficial,” book club member, sophomore Talbiha Jahangir said. “We did it last year and I think it’s really good for the community as it’s helping many…stay informed and educated and overall, it was a great experience when we did it last year “

The book drive will run through this week, and students can drop off donations in designated boxes around campus. Students can receive one volunteer hour for every two books donated.
