A five-game winning streak came to an end for the softball team (5-2) at the hands of the Emerson Mavericks (7-0) on the road Tuesday losing 9-6.
“They were what we expected, really good hitters who put the ball in play and challenged us defensively,” head coach Randi Hamilton said. “We had some really good, confident, at bats. We will need to do a better job defensively if we want to take a game from them next time we face them.”
The Redhawks offense was firing on all cylinders as the team recorded a .394 batting average and a .474 on-base percentage, with freshman pitcher Beckley Baumgart responsible for a home run.
Despite the setback, senior utility player Sam Byrnes believes the team will be able to get back on track in their upcoming games and possibly beat Emerson later in the season.
“Losses are part of the game, but it’s how we respond that defines us — and our response is going to be loud and clear,” Byrnes said. “Our team is more motivated than ever, and we’re confident that we’ll bounce back and come out on top in our next matchup.”
