More freshmen are stepping up to compete at varsity level in all high school sports and they’re making a big impact early on the softball field here on campus as the Redhawks sit in third place in District 11-5A.
This year’s team features a unique mix of experience and youth, with two seniors, two juniors, one sophomore, and five freshmen making up the roster, all this to go with new head coach Randi Hamilton.
“It’s really exciting, they do a really good job with staying engaged with everything they do,” Hamilton said. “And they definitely keep me on my toes, but we have a really good balance of under classmen and upper classmen and the under classmen really contribute in every single way and they’ve done a great job jumping into the varsity level.”
Playing at the varsity level as a freshman can be intimidating, but Emmy Fiedler finds it fun.
“It’s very challenging,” Feidler said. “And [what] makes it more fun [is] to compete against like older people who should be better than us and we beat them sometimes”
