Although she’s only released one album so far, she’s still making waves on the music scene with her beautiful acoustic melodies and heartfelt songs, and of course, a charming British accent doesn’t hurt either. Who’s the mystery girl? Meet Matilda Mann.
Growing up, her father blasted the Beatles, Earth Wind & Fire, and Joni Mitchell. However, Mann says this was simply background noise and she really started to be interested in music after listening to artists like Avril Lavigne and Corinne Bailey Rae in her early teen years. These waymakers on the music scene inspired Mann, and she ended up attending the BRIT school for sixth form, which promotes education in the musical arts. Her first EP was released in 2019, followed by three more EPs and crowned by her debut album. In 2024 she opened for ROLE MODEL as part of his UK tour, and also performed as a guest performer for Wallows whilst on their tour.
Her debut album, Roxwell, was applauded as being both witty and sarcastic, while still presenting deep emotional connections for listeners. It isn’t just her music that’s charming; her music videos are also known for having a DIY, intimate vibe to them. Produced in partnership with her friend Ben Harris, these videos have allowed Mann to give a new level of depth to her music.
Known for her minimalistic style, Mann performs solely with an acoustic guitar and her voice. Her recordings hold the same authenticity, allowing listeners to connect and giving Mann the opportunity to express her innermost thoughts through uncomplicated instrumentation. Her sound is distinctive – not quite folk, not quite pop, not quite indie – and yet all her own.
