Red Rhythm’s annual spring show is Friday and Saturday in the auditorium.
“[Spring Show] is a tradition that’s been going on for almost two decades, and it’s something that’s special that alumni will come back and watch,” Red Rhythm director Nicole Nothe said. “It’s a celebration and snapshot of the whole year, and most importantly, it’s a great moment for us to celebrate our seniors as their last spring show.”
One of the featured dances in this year’s show is the Rhythm of the Week dance “Applause”.
“All of the social officers found the applause aspect of the performance really fitting for all of the Rhythm of the Week,” secretary, senior Tanvi Jain said. “They have put in recognizable work throughout the year which leads to them getting awarded ROW, and the audience will undoubtedly think the same which led to the song “Applause” by Lady Gaga, and the Jazz choreography came naturally with it.”
Putting together a dance comes with challenges, and one of them was creating the choreography and formations.
“It was somewhat difficult to visualize the dance in the auditorium and make sure the forms looked good from the audience perspective since we were usually choreographing in studios and outside of school,” Jain said. “The next battle was cleaning the dance and making sure everyone was on the same page, which simply came with repetitions, clarifications and practices.”
In addition to creating the dance, time and communication between the social officers was also very important.
“Some challenges we have faced while putting this dance together was the time schedules,” vice president, junior Peishan Li said. “All of the socials are busy bees, so coordinating a time to meet up and actually choreograph the dance was the biggest challenge that we faced.”
Despite the roadblocks, freshman Hadley Chandler, one of the many dancers that got Rhythm of the week, finds the jazz routine enjoyable.
“My favorite part of performing [the] ROW dance is that I get to celebrate with my teammates that we all were voted Red Rhythm of the week,” Chandler said. “It means a lot to me that my teammates noticed the hard work I put in and voted for me for this title, and we all get to perform together and celebrate that accomplishment! It is also the only jazz routine I get to perform this year, and jazz is one of my favorite styles of dance, so I have a really fun time with it.”
