Senior grades are due Monday, and that means the class of 2025 graduation on May 23 at Comerica Center is one step closer. But seniors wanting to ensure their names have the best chance at being pronounced correctly at graduation face a deadline of midnight Friday to submit their name pronunciation assignment on the LHS Class of 2025 class on Canvas.
“Ms. Wiseman and I are pronouncing the senior names as they walk at graduation, and we really want to be sure that, to the best of our abilities, we say your names right because it’s a big moment,” graduation pronouncer, choir director Toni Ugolini said. “If we don’t have them with enough time to check everybody’s, write down how we want to pronounce it, then there’s a chance we might say your name wrong, and that would be a bummer.”
As of 10:31 a.m. Friday, 191 of 462 seniors had submitted their name pronunciation leading Ugolini to email teachers asking for their help in reminding students to submit their name.
“I totally did not realize it was a thing until my second period teacher told me to do it,” senior Lucas Godoy said. “My name is definitely hard to pronounce, especially my middle name so I am glad I filled it out.”
Seniors can log into Canvas and under the LHS Class of 2025 Class, they can view the assignment titled ‘Name Pronunciation’. From there, students will need to record an audio of themselves repeating their full name three times.
“So many people wait until the day before graduation to do it,” Ugolini said. “I promise you, I’m not listening to those recordings that night, because I don’t have your cards anymore. I have to have them in time, so I can write it on your card that you hand me when you walk the stage.”
