Even though Christmas is months away, the halls of The Nest have already been decked… in full Redhawk spirit. All across campus, in each and every hall, dozens of posters showcasing Redhawk pride can be found.
But where did all these posters come from?
Cheer. Over the summer, students in cheer were tasked with creating 3 posters displaying school spirit to hang up around campus.
For sophomore cheerleader Alaysia Rhodes, the process of creating the posters was enjoyable, despite the effort required.
“We have to make sure that it takes up the whole poster and that the words are big and it looks like you put effort into it because people don’t want to see a half-finished poster,” Rhodes said.
But the practice of cheer creating school spirit posters isn’t one that started just this summer. For years, the cheerleading team has taken responsibility for ensuring that the halls of The Nest reflect Redhawk pride.
For varsity cheer coach Katherine Rainwater, the posters are a way to bring Redhawks together across sports and academics.
“Everytime you walk in the hallway, you get a reminder that we are all Redhawks, it’s football season, and not just football – just any sports or academics or anything that we all want,” Rainwater said. “We’re all Redhawks together [and] it’s like a constant reminder in the hallway.”
