The first pep rally is over, and the official beginning of football season is here with athletes and staff ready for the Friday night lights.
“We finally get to go against a real opponent, we had a couple scrimmages but that’s not the same as a real game,” assistant football coach Canon Kromis said. “I’m excited for them to go out there on the field and show what they’ve been doing for the past few weeks.”
In order to encourage the players and hype up the school, Red Rhythm and cheer have been cleaning up their routines to prepare for their upcoming performances.
“Cheer has been doing a lot to get ready for this season. We have been going over band dances, cheers, all of the above,” varsity cheer captain, senior Katelyn Bott said. “[We’ve been] going over dances and material for pep rallies and all that stuff.”
“At pep rallies, the whole school is there, all the girls are there and it’s just awesome to see everyone come together,” Red Rhythm secretary, senior Tanvi Jain said. The atmosphere is amazing and everyone is so pep.”
For football, the pep rallies are a vital morale booster.
“The pep rally is so important. The students coming together for the pep rally to show their support, not just for football, for all athletics shows the athletes the school is behind them,” Kromis said. “It’s not just themselves versus the other team, we have the whole campus behind us.”
However, students who are not involved in either of these events are anticipating them nonetheless.
“I think [the games] are just a tradition, and I think it’s fun and a good way to hang out with friends,” sophomore Lana Aldrei said. “I am looking forward to us hopefully winning games this season and homecoming.”
Kromis shares this sentiment and anticipates a change in trajectory for the football program on campus.
“I’m very excited for this season, we have something going here,” Kromis said. “We’re definitely going to bring some Ws back to Liberty.”
