Dancing to the beats of Beyonce and Justin Timberlake, Red Rhythm is set to perform their hip hop routine at Friday’s Homecoming pep rally starting at 12:15 p.m.
“Hip hop has become more popular, we’ve been doing that the last few years, and they really seem to enjoy it,” Mooty said. “It’s really important because it shows school spirit and it gets the school involved and excited for homecoming week.”
Friday’s pep rally routine is something of a break in routine for Red Rhythm as they have been working on three dances: field kick, pom, and hip hop, simultaneously, making time management a focus.
“They’re going pretty good, we’ve been working on it in our morning practices a lot,” freshman Hadley Chandler said. “Hopefully, we’ll get to work more specifically on the stunts and lifts that we’re doing, but I feel like it’s pretty good.”
The hip hop routine will feature several stunts, including a handstand stunt.
“I think it’s going to be really fun. I am very fortunate to be working with a lot of people who have done this stunt before, so it shouldn’t be too difficult,” Chandler said. “Just hoping that I don’t get dropped, but you know, I trust them, so it’s gonna be good.”
Performing at the pep rally is exciting for junior Kaya Katti, but she also adds some concerns about the surface she will be dancing on.
“I’m super excited. It’s my second year, and I think it’s gonna be really fun, just to see everyone’s faces,” Katti said. “But I’m kind of worried because they’re putting down the cheer mats, and it’s really hard to move my shoes on it, but I’m hoping it’s going to be better after we get our hip hop shoes.”
