Aiming not to get stung, football takes on the Yellow Jackets

After a 70-14 loss to the state’s 7th ranked team in 5A Division II, the football team (1-6, 1-4) hopes to turn things around as they travel to Denison (3-2, 2-2) to play the Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. Friday. 

After a 70-14 loss to the state’s 7th ranked team in 5A Division II, the football team (1-6, 1-4) hopes to turn things around as they travel to Denison (3-2, 2-2) to play the Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. Friday. 

“We’re really just going out there and playing for us because we know a lot of teams don’t respect us,”  wide receiver and defensive back, sophomore Myles McClain said. “If we get another win, we can change that.”

Redhawks football coaches did not immediately respond to Liberty Wingspan’s request for comment.

Wrestling competed alongside seven other high schools in the Gauntlet at The Grove, hosted by Walnut Grove High School, Saturday. The boys took on five high schools and placed fourth by defeating Colleyvile Heritage, while the girls competed individually rather than by school and recorded multiple wins and first-place-finishes.

Although hoping to open the regular season with a win, the basketball team (0-1) fell 75-64 to Austin St. Michael’s (1-1) Friday at Arlington Martin High School.

The volleyball team (35-5, 13-1 District 11-5A, #5 in 5A) ended their season one game short of playing for a state championship after Argyle (38-3, 12-0 District 6-5A, #10 in 5A) defeated the Redhawks 3-1 on Saturday at Prosper Rock Hill High School.

Having already made school history this season by winning the UIL 5A Region Championship, the volleyball team (35-4, 13-1 District 11-5A, #6 in 5A) looks to make more by advancing to the state championship game on Nov. 22..
