AP Human Geography students have been researching and interviewing migrants from across the world for a class project.

Students were given a task where they created fake luggage that was a manila folder, with a bunch of papers about a migrant they’re interviewing within it. 

These papers included things such as a mock passport, reasons as to why the migrant left their home country, and the migration story of the migrant.

“I started doing the migration project with AP Human Geography last year, it was my first year doing human geography,” teacher Sarah Wiseman said. “I was inspired actually by my college human geography professor. He had us do a personal migration project on someone from our own family, and it was a really good experience for me as one of the few assignments from college that I remember really specifically, and it was a great way to get my hands dirty as a geographer in a way that felt really engaging and exciting.”

The project allowed students to connect with their family and friends by learning their story of how they came to the Americas.

“My favorite part about the migration project was interviewing my mom and learning a lot of things about her that I didn’t know,” freshman Isabelle Njoku said. “Also I like the artistic creative part of it, I can really put myself into her shoes and just yeah do the project”
