3DMA students are creating 3D models and turning them into real objects through 3D printing.

The students are using the 3D modeling software Fusion to design 3D models and print them in real life. 

“There’s a definite connection for students because they create something, and then we print it out. It’s real and useful and cool, and they can solve design problems, things like that,” 3DMA teacher Demas Lamas said. “It’s fun. It’s still a work in progress, but I’m hoping that it adds a little bit of variety and maybe some different paths, where maybe not just entertainment-based, but also some for engineering.” 

Students were introduced to the new 3D modeling and 3D printing project software in these few weeks, and many are excited about designing their own models in fusion and seeing them printed in real life.

“It’s just so much easier to use than Maya, and it’s really fancy, not going to lie,” freshman Yaaksha Jananathan said. “We just did tweezers, we did a coat hook, and then we designed this thingamabob thing. That’s literally what it’s called, and it was actually really fun. I’m super excited for the future projects we’re going to do, and I hope we get to model harder things. And hopefully, we also get to do a bit of animation or rigging and stuff like that.”
