While most of the students and faculty at The Nest get to enjoy the long weekend in full, that won’t be the case for wrestling. First hosting a senior night dual against McKinney Boyd Friday at 6:00 p.m., the Redhawks will then compete in Heritage High School’s Coyote Classic Saturday.
“Districts is coming up so we don’t want to put too much pressure on the kids for these tournaments,” head coach Justin Koons said. “We don’t have a full line up again but I know the kids will perform well for the ones who can’t make it. This tournament is going to help the team prepare for districts because it’s a big tournament and for some of the kids it’s their first year wrestling so districts are new to them. It will help them understand the environment.”
For senior Natalie Chen, previous experience at the tournament has given her expectations for this one.
“It’s going to be physically and mentally rigorous,” Chen said. “But I know I can push myself beyond what I think is possible.”
