Competing in the Frisco ISD Tournament at Reedy High School over the long weekend, the softball team (1-4) came away with mixed results.
The Redhawks started the tournament off with a 3-1 loss to Denton Guyer (4-0) before picking up their first win of the season, an 8-0 shutout of Denton (0-2). From there, they endured back-to-back shutouts against Prosper Walnut Grove (2-2) and Sadler S&S Consolidated (4-1) by scores of 11-0 and 10-0 respectively. A scheduled game against Reedy was canceled due to rain.
The team saw improvement in their batting averages (.192) and on-base percentage (.284) compared to their first game (.125 and .160). However, head coach Randi Hamilton believes numbers alone do not tell the full story.
“I think the stats and scores don’t reflect the growth we had and all of the learning that was done through those games,” Hamilton said. “Of our 3 losses all 3 teams are ranked in the top ten, two in the top 2, of their divisions. We learned a lot and will only get better from those experiences.”
Up next, the Redhawks will head to Corinth Tuesday at 6 p.m. to challenge Lake Dallas (3-3).
“We need to be more adaptable and find ways to put pressure on their defense,” sophomore utility player Greer Schurr said.
