AP 3-D Art and Design students have been spending the entire year in the art room building their portfolios to prepare for college. Students are creating and reflecting on their work. From paintings and drawings to digital designs, students have been pushing their creativity, learning new techniques, and showcasing their individual style to prepare for future art programs.

“Colleges really like experimentation, AP 3-D Art and Design teacher Elise Reed said. “For the AP portfolio, they really like to see your train of thought and your line of thinking throughout the whole year you’re taking kind of one theme and one idea and really morphing that in lots of creative pieces so really expanding that knowledge on that one specific topic so they really like to see your thinking um your creative process, and lots of experimentation.”
Reed encourages experimentation and strong creative themes, but students say the process can also be challenging as they balance deadlines and college-level expectations.
“I would definitely say that it’s the time restriction because we don’t have a lot of time on our hands, and we have to create college-level artwork, and we are using our previous artwork pieces to help with that,” Reed said.
Despite the challenges, students say the portfolio process has helped them grow as artists and prepare for college art programs. By the end of the year, each student will submit a body of work that reflects their personal theme and creative development.
