Ashley Pennington is the new head volleyball coach as former head coach Eighmy Dobbins has resigned to take the same position at Lovejoy High School.
“Liberty Volleyball was a huge part of my high school experience, and coach Womble [Frisco ISD Athletic Director/former Redhawks head coach U’iLani Womble] was who inspired me to pursue coaching in the first place,” Pennington said. “It has always been a goal of mine to be in a head coaching position, and it feels full circle to get to start my high school head coaching career at the place it all started for me.”
Taking the team to the state semifinals for the first time in school history, Dobbins is confident the team will not skip a beat under Pennington’s leadership.
“Coach Pennington will do a great job with the Redhawk Volleyball program. Her volleyball knowledge, creativity, and relationship building skills will serve the program well,” Dobbins said. “Coach Pennington’s a Liberty alumni and loves the school and our community very much, she’s the perfect fit.”
Junior middle blocker Emersyn Fink is excited to see what Pennington adds to the program for her senior year.
“I am super excited that Coach Pennington received this opportunity,” Fink said. “Obviously such a big change going into my senior year is not ideal, but I’m happy that this change was someone that all of the program is familiar with and have a relationship with. We are all excited to see how Pennington adds her own touch to the program and can’t wait for this upcoming season.”
Pennington is ready to uphold the high expectations set under Womble and Dobbins, but ready to add her own touches.
“I will continue to uphold a lot of the same routines and identities as previous years. For example, ball control and defense being a program pillar,” Pennington said. “As for changes to the program, I am excited to really mix up the offense and make it multidimensional. I believe this will give us an additional layer of success and open up a lot of scoring opportunities for our front row.”
