Most seniors will have to wait for graduation on May 20 to be recognized, but that’s not the case for two of them who are on the softball team (7-4). Utility player/pitcher Addison Hanson and utility player Sam Byrnes, who are both going to attend Louisiana State University in the fall, will be honored before the Redhawks’ senior night game against Independence (4-7) at The Nest Friday starting at 5:30 p.m. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
Head coach Randi Hamilton said that she is looking for her team to build on their previous game against the Knights, where the Redhawks squeezed out a 1-0 win over spring break.
“To beat Independence we are going to need to put together better at bats,” Hamilton said. “They will score more runs this time so we will need to battle with them.”
In her second-to-last high school softball game, Hanson hopes to guide the Redhawks to a win.
“If we keep up our good offense and clean defense, I think we can definitely win,” Hanson said. “I think our bats will be really good this game, and we’ll be able to score a lot of runs early on in the game.”
