The Redhawks octathlon team, a training ground for the school’s academic decathlon team, are state champions after Saturday’s statewide competition on campus featuring freshmen and sophomores.
“During the awards ceremony they all cheered and celebrated; brought the kids closer, fun to see, fun to win. Lots of medals,” head coach Tim Johannes said. “We haven’t hosted it for a long time, but we did this year which was cool. They did the super quiz, and the teams worked together and won that. It’s mostly individual, so the team effort was really cool. The whole state puts the points together, we beat katy taylor by 1200 points. First ranked.”
Consisting of eight events, there are six multiple-choice exams and then the Super Quiz in the octathlon.
The favorite part of my day was the awards ceremony because it felt good to finally see the results after all the hard work,” freshman Moksh Ghugharawala said. “Everyone was excited and it made the whole experience feel worth it.”
